Betty M. Kirven

Betty McCaskill Kirven, age 87, passed away Tuesday, November 07, 2017. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, November 10th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following in Swift Creek Cemetery.

Betty Kirven

Born September 19, 1930, Betty is the daughter of the late Joseph Marion McCaskill and Ola V. Hall McCaskill. She worked at Dixie Cup for over 30 years, and she enjoyed playing in the Good Time Band. She was known for having a green thumb, and was the glue of her family. She was a member of Praise Temple Church in Hartsville.

Surviving are her children, Sarah K. (Bill) Garland, Lewis D. (Kathy) Kirven, Cathy Y. Kirven (Wayne Stuart), and Leon M. Kirven; her grandchildren, Billy (Dana) Garland, Shawn (Connie) Garland, Sarah Lehr (David) Gandy, Russ (Sharon) Rogers, Kelly (Les) Galloway, Caren (Austin) Oates, Jay Jay (Martin) Stark, Lon (Sydney) Kirven, Matthew Kirven, Marion Kirven, and Marlon Kirven; 14 great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law, R.L. Kirven, and her sister-in-law, Arcola Stokes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Kirven; her sister, Inez Turner; her brothers, A.W., Ernest, Joseph, Harold, and James McCaskill.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Belk Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Sarah and Bill Garland, 127 Alabama Dr. Darlington.

The family would like to thank Dr. Parker Lilly and the staff at Medford Nursing Home and McLeod Hospital.

Bobby H. Byrd, Jr.

Robert “Bobby” H. Byrd, Jr, age 75, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 11th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following in Darlington Memory Gardens.

Born July 5, 1942, Bobby is the son of the late Robert H. Byrd, Sr., and Corrie Privette Hill. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard, and was the owner and operator of Mobile Auto Supply for 34 years. Bobby enjoyed baking, collecting classic cars, looking for “quality merchandise” at yard sales, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. In his later years, Bobby enjoyed watching birds and squirrels in his yard, and checking on his neighbors. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Hartsville.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Brenda Davis Byrd of Hartsville; his daughters, Fran A. Byrd of Columbia and Amanda (Andy) Matthews of Florence; two grandchildren, Stokes and Piper Matthews; his sister, Faye (Gene) Bilton of Orangeburg. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert “Kevin” Byrd.

Donald L. Glock

Donald Larry Glock, age 66, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Born December 2, 1950 in Dayton, Ohio, Larry is the son of Peggy McKeown Bagwell, and the late Donald Leroy Glock. He worked as a pharmacist for many years until his retirement. Larry was an avid Carolina Gamecocks fan and he enjoyed ocean fishing.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Peggy (Burl) McKeown Bagwell, are his son, Brian D. Glock of Charlotte, NC; his siblings, Ronnie Glock of Florence, DeNiece (Eddie) Jackson of Darlington, Martha (Sergio) Parra of Lancaster, and Dr. Pablo (Maria) McKeown of Guatemala. Also surviving are four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Harry L. Harrington

Harry Lear Harrington, age 79, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 9th at Belk Funeral Home.

Born January 16, 1938 in Wadesboro, NC, Harry is the son of the late Watt Harrington, and Grace Clark Harrington. He worked for Bristow Oil Company and as a salesman for over 30 years. He loved golf and was a North Carolina Tar Heels football fan.

Surviving are his daughter, Rachel (Ricky) Langley of Darlington; his grandson, Scott Smith of Cheraw. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Harrington, and his sister, Patricia Jacobs.

Julia Weaver

Julia “Judy” Nelson Weaver, of the Lake Swamp Community, died Tuesday Night, November 7, 2016. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 10th at Lake Swamp Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family received friends in the fellowship hall of Lake Swamp Baptist Church following the graveside service.

Born in Darlington on September 12, 1938, she is the daughter of the late George and Margaret Tarte Nelson. Judy was a devoted housewife who enjoyed knitting and crocheting, then giving her work away to friends. Mrs. Weaver was faithful in reading her Bible, and a member of Lake Swamp Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Chandler “Chan” Weaver, a daughter, Vicki (Jim) Avin all of the Lake Swamp Community; and a half-sister, Martha Broome.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Diane Atkins, Rocky Nelson and Janice Nelson.

George Kornegay

George William Kornegay, age 72, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017. A Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 12th in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home.

Born in Providence, RI on June 20, 1945, he is the son of the late George and Martha Forrest Kornegay, but was lovingly raised by his Aunt Bessie. George served his country in the United States Navy, where he worked as an electrician, repairing planes aboard an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam War. He then went to work for Ben Arnold-Sunbelt, retiring after forty years as a salesman. He enjoyed watching Gamecock football and will be remembered as a man who worked hard to provide for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Melanie of Summerfield NC and Brian and Ann of Singapore, and his grandchildren: Reagan, Addison, Kruz and Karmen.
