Carol Matthews

Carol A. Moore Matthews went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.Carol was a loving mother, wife and friend who always gave far more than she received. We will miss the light and joy she brought to every soul she touched. She dedicated her life to ministry, having worked for eighteen years at Precept Ministries in Chattanooga, TN and Just for Women Ministries in Darlington and Florence. She greeted everyone she met with a hug and ushered joy into the lives of each person in her life. She will be forever cherished and always missed. She is dancing now and is free!

She is survived by her son, Michael Jay (Todd Milliner) Matthews of Los Angeles, CA, her sister, Jeaneane Moore of Huntsville, AL , her sisters-in-law Ruthie Matthews of Darlington and Louise (Oscar) Maisel of Bayreuth, Germany.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Matthews.

Visitation was held at Belk Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 12th.

Cecil T. Braddock

Cecil T. Braddock, of Lexington, died on Friday, May 5, 20017 after a lengthy illness. Born on July 15, 1935 in Darlington County, South Carolina, Mrs. Braddock was predeceased by her husband Frank H. Braddock. Mrs. Braddock was a retired employee of K-Mart and worked for a number of years in the childcare program at Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia. She is survived by her son, Frank H. Braddock Jr of Lexington and his wife Rose. Mrs. Braddock has four grandsons, The Rev. Zachary Braddock (Brittany) of Columbia, Jesse Byrdic of Jacksonville, Florida, Sgt. Ian Braddock (Kayla) of New Bern, North Carolina and Lance Corporal Alex Braddock (Helen) of San Diego, California. Mrs. Braddock also has three great grandchildren, Braxton, Claire and Edward. She is also survived by her brother Wayne Tadlock of Lenior, North Carolina and sister Lynn NeSmith (James) of Darlington.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks for the staff at Oakleaf Village and Lighthouse Hospice of Lexington for the care of Mrs. Braddock over the past several years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the South Carolina Philharmonic Endowment Campaign, 500 Taylor Street, Suite 300, Columbia, SC 29201. The family will greet friends at Frank and Rose’s home in Lexington on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. There will be a Graveside service on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington with the Rev. Zachary Braddock officiating, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.

Mrs. Braddock was a loving and supportive wife who traveled with her husband while he was in the U.S. Navy to many duty stations around the world, including Bremerton, Washington; Sasebo, Japan; Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada; Norfolk, Virginia and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Marta Parnell Lloyd

Mrs. Martha “Marta” Parnell Lloyd, age 68, died suddenly Sunday, May 14, 2017 at her home. Visitation was held Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Lamar United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Lamar Memorial Cemetery, directed By Belk Funeral Home, Lamar.

Mrs. Lloyd was born June 25, 1948 in Lamar, the daughter of the late Lavelle and Beatrice Shockley Parnell. She was the proprietor of Lavelle’s Grocery, her father’s store, for many years where many friends became family to her. After being a homemaker and stay-at-home mom, she became employed by the Lamar Elementary/High School Cafeteria, followed by the Town of Lamar Water Department. Marta was well known for baking her delicious cakes that so many people requested for birthdays, weddings, and other occasions. She was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Mike Lloyd of the home, her daughters Michelle Lloyd and Angela Lloyd both of Lamar, and a beloved granddaughter, Blake Lloyd of Lamar; also her sister, Pammie Bell of Lamar; nephews Ryan (Heather) Bell of Florence; Kevin (Kacey) Bell of Florence; brother-in-law, Bo (Frances) Lloyd; nieces Pammie (Tony) Windham, and Lisa (Brad) Jordan; beloved uncle, George Shockley of Washington, and a host of cousins and others that were dear to her heart.
