Joseph Michael Hanks

Mr. Joseph Michael (Mike) Hanks, age 60, of Murrells Inlet passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 in Charleston, S.C.

Funeral services for Mr. Hanks will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 1:00 p.m. at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Stanley and the Rev. Joel Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be held at Darlington Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 14th, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

Mr. Hanks was born February 20, 1955 in Wilkes County, to Joseph Oliver and Nell Alexander Hanks.

Mr. Hanks graduated from N.C. State University with a Master’s Degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Hanks was a Professional Mechanical & Electrical Engineer with Nexant. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Darlington, S.C.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet Davis Hanks, of the home; his parents of Hays; one daughter, Amanda Hanks Sanchez and husband Josh of Summerville, S.C.; two grandchildren, Ava and Ella Sanchez; two sisters, Pat Dvorak and husband Jim of Hays, and Julie Swaim and husband Lee of Hamptonville; one brother, David Hanks and wife Debbie of Hays; nieces, Cindy Medina and husband Joey, and Courtney Dvorak; and great nephew, Joshua Dvorak.

Pallbearers will be: Chris Whitley, Clint Davis, Jerry Whitley, Jim Dvorak, Randy Whitley, Ray Roten, Tad Whitley and Josh Roten.

Ronnie O. McKnight

Ronnie O’Neal McKnight, age 51, died March 5, 2015. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home on Monday, March 9th at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Kendall Williams. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery. Ronnie’s family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home and other times at the home, 405 Mustang Road, Darlington.
OBIT Ronnie McKnight
Born on May 19, 1963 in Darlington County, he was the son of the late Brunson O’Neal McKnight and Mildred Lynch McKnight. Ronnie worked for SCE & G (SCANA) for twenty years before retiring. He loved to go fishing and watch USC Gamecock football. Ronnie would always jokingly tell you that he was a professional poker player.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Webb McKnight; four children: Cody (Bobbi Lynn) McKnight, Heather (Johnny) Suggs, Neil McKnight and Aaliyah McKnight; four special grandsons: Zachary McKnight, Caulyer Suggs, Crayton McKnight and Grysen Suggs, all of Darlington; siblings: Lavern (Faye) McKnight of Darlington, Richard (Peggy) McKnight of Mississippi, JD McKnight of Sumter, Dorothy McKnight of Hartsville, Connie McKnight of Camden, and Mary Halloway of Darlington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters: Mildred “Pee Wee” McKnight, Shelby Jean Anderson, and Diana McKnight.

Iris Irick

Iris Irick, 68, of Darlington died on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in Temple Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Iris was born in Darlington, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Reese Greg Stokes and Mable Agnes Stokes. Iris was the Vice- President of Darlington Packing Company in Darlington. She loved traveling, spending time at the beach, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Louie Irick; her sons, Steve Irick and Joey Irick (Trina Irick); sister-in-law, Faye Lewis; and grandchildren, Logan, Jamie, Breanna, Josh, Dawson and Walker Irick, and Dawson Baker.

Mrs. Irick was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Buddy Lewis.

Ronnie Morrell

Ronnie Morrell, age 72, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Belk Funeral Home Lamar Chapel, officiated by Pastor Luis Gargiulo. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Graveside service will follow the service at Elim United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Ronnie was born March 4, 1942, in Lamar, S.C. He was the son of the late Charlie and Janie Sellers Morrell. He retired from Sonoco Paper Products. He loved hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Cynthia L. Morrell, and his son, Ty Morrell, of Hartsville: his sisters: Sammie Plummer, Sue (Ted) Carter, and Lula (Pete) Jeffords; a daughter-in-law Lyna Munn; and several grandchildren.

Preceded in death, in addition to his parents, were his sons Wayne and Todd Morrell; his brothers, Charles, Sidney, and Carroll Morrell; his sisters, Virginia M. Turner, Vivian M. Lloyd, Viola M. Wilkes, and Gertie M. Parnell; and his step-son, Jimmy Munn.
