Carol Andrews Gerringer

Carol Andrews Gerringer, 68, died Saturday May 27, 2017 in her residence after an extended illness. Graveside funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family eceived friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 29 at the funeral home and other times at her home, 104 North Warley Street, Darlington.

Born in Florence, she was the daughter of the late John W. Andrews, Jr. and the late Elizabeth Thompson Andrews. Mrs. Gerringer graduated from Betty Stevens School of Cosmetology and was a hairdresser for over 40 years. She had a special relationship with every client she ever had and loved her job very much. She was also a master gardener and a member of Darlington Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Gerringer is survived by her husband, Daryl S. Gerringer of the home; two sons, Jason A. Smith and his wife, Laura Langley Smith, and Brandon Smith and his partner, Kye Owens, all of Darlington; two grandchildren, Graceanna Lucas Smith and Langley Brandon Smith; a sister, Mrs. William F. (Becky) Early, Jr of Darlington; two brothers, John W. (Patsy) Andrews, III, of Florence and J. Alan (Teresa) Andrews of Darlington; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Grace Elizabeth “Betty” Swindell Metropol

Grace Elizabeth “Betty” Swindell Metropol, age 92, beloved wife of the late G.P. Metropol, Jr. Of Darlington died Saturday, May 27, 2017. A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Metropol is survived by her children: George P. Metropol, III (Shelley), Dorothy metropolis, Liz Metropol Ham (Lyn) and Bill Metropol (Leslie). Also, surviving are nine grandchildren and eleven grandchildren.

She will be truly missed by all who loved her.

Betty Faye Stokes

Betty Faye Jones Stokes, age 51, died suddenly on Thursday, June 1, 2017. Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3rd in the Lamar chapel at Belk Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Florence National Cemetery.

Born October 29, 1965, Betty is the daughter of Barbara Jones Watford. She served her country in the U.S. Navy. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her mother, Barbara Jones (Johnny) Watford, Betty is survived by her husband, William Robert Stokes; two daughters, Autumn (James) Forthman of Lamar, Harley Stokes (Adam Moye) of Manning; two grandchildren, Bryson Forthman and Kinsley Moye; and her sister, Monica Marks (Jay Hood) of Florence.

Ercel Teal Bryant

Ercel Teal Bryant, age 82, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017. A graveside service was held 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 6th in Lamar Memorial Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Born April 16, 1935, Ercel is the daughter of the late James ‘Jimmy’ Teal and the late Alice Windham. She worked for Dixie Cup for several years until her retirement.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Guy Edward Bryant; her son, Jerry Bryant; her granddaughter, Haley Elizabeth B. Fleisch; her great-grandchildren, Riley Elijah Fleisch and Halo Elizabeth Fleisch; her sister, Valerie Teal Bryant of Lamar; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their children. She was preceded in death by her sister, Bobbie Jean Brown.

Newton Jackson

Funeral services for Mr. Newton Jackson of Roanoke, Virginia formerly of Darlington were 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke Virginia 24019. Viewing started at 11 a.m. Saturday ending at the hour of the service. Interment followed the service in Virginia. Mr. Jackson died Tuesday, May 30, 2017.

He was a son of the late Sam and Ineitha Jackson of Darlington.

Ruth Suggs Dutton Gibson
Ruth Suggs Dutton Gibson, age 94, died on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Florence, SC. She was born on July 23, 1922 in Darlington, one of eleven children born to Caleb Ervin Suggs and Lena Mae Lewis Suggs. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Ernest Ivey Dutton and Billie D. Gibson.

She is survived by two sons: Ernie Dutton (Derene) of Florence and Toy Dutton (Lynnette) of Hartsville; and a daughter, Brenda Vance (Bob) of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Ladd Dutton (Jeanie), Brad Dutton (Jasmine), Browning Dutton, Laura Vance, and Les Vance; six great-grandchildren: Zachary, Colt, Ramsey, Sullivan, Yelise, and Bradley.

A visitation was held Monday, June 6th from 5-7 p.m. at Belk Funeral Home in Darlington. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Florence, with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the McLeod Emergency Room staff, especially Haley, and the 7th floor nurses of McLeod Regional Medical Center; the staff of McLeod Hospice House; and the nurses and staff of Elmcroft of Florence.
