Vivian Nell Gandy

Funeral services for Mrs. Vivian Nell Gandy of Darlington were held 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017 at Saint James United Methodist Church.

Interment followed in Florence National Cemetery directed by Jordan Funeral Home, Inc.

Mrs. Gandy, a daughter of the late Otis and Carrie Jones, was born in Beaumont, Texas on August 14, 1931.
She departed this life on July 17, 2017 after a long illness.

She attended the public schools of Beaumont, Texas. She also attended Fisk University, Hampton University and Francis Marion University. In 1950, she was united in marriage to the late Gerard Perry Gandy, Jr. and moved to Darlington, South Carolina.

After coming to Darlington, she joined St. James United Methodist Church where she served in various capacities throughout the years.

Mrs. Gandy was employed with the Darlington County School District as a secretary at Cain Elementary School. She worked as a secretary for 34 years and retired in 1994. She was a life- time member of the “Les Amies Femmes Club”.
Survivors are: a daughter, Rosalind Gandy Williams; four adopted daughters, Barbara (Harvey) Franklin, JoAnn (LaVerne) Knox, Ethelyn (Calvin) Muldrow and Jacqueline Dixon; a sister-in-law, Mable Carter; a brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Jarmon; a special niece, Lisa (Charlie) Baggett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation for Mrs. Gandy was 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017 in the funeral home chapel.

Daniel Allen Nutter

Daniel Allen Nutter, age 25, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017. A visitation was held Thursday, July 20th from 5-7 p.m. at Belk Funeral Home. The family will hold a private memorial service on a later date.

Born October 3, 1991, Daniel is the son of Steve and Denise Raths. He graduated with honors from South Florence High School in 2010 and then attended Florence-Darlington Technical College and did an internship at Clemson Extension. Daniel enjoyed reading, drawing, science fiction, the outdoors, and he loved his grandmother.

Surviving are his parents, Steve and Denise Raths; his siblings, Kelly, Jacob, and Robbie Nutter; his aunts and uncles, Dana (Jon “Bowl”) Martin of Florence, Teresa (John) Diffenderfer of East Liverpool, OH, Dennis Nutter of Darlington; his grandmother, Annie Davis of Knoxville, TN; his very close cousins, Dennis “Bubba” (Kara) Nutter of Florence, Dylan Nutter of Darlington, Brooke “Brookie” Jones and Chase Jones of Florence, and his nephews whom he was known as “Uncle Nutty”, Jackson “Doodlebug” Wallace and Mason “Bubba” Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Denny Nutter, Shirley Baetjer, and Spencer Davis.

Betty Baker

Betty Ann Andrews Baker, age 85, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017. A graveside service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 26th in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born January 31, 1932 in Darlington County, Betty was the daughter of the late John W. Sr. and Earline Young Andrews. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Melessia Baker of Kannapolis, NC, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Elzie Wylie “Buck” Baker, NASCAR Champion and Hall of Fame Member, and Tommy Skinner, Sr.; her daughter, Tina Baker; two sisters, Mildred Oates and Doris Folsom; her brothers, John Andrews, Jr. and Jimmy Andrews.

William Martin Boyce

William Martin Boyce, age 72, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20th at Darlington Presbyterian Church, with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born June 25, 1945, Martin was the son of the late Harvey Austin Boyce and Kathleen Gregory Boyce. He was a 1968 graduate of Clemson University with a degree in civil engineering. He served in the U.S. Army as 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War and was in the 102 Engineering Company. Martin enjoyed cooking, woodworking, Clemson Tigers, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Darlington Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his children, Allison (Jim) Sutton, of Zurich, Switzerland, Meghan (Russell) Porter of Charleston, SC, William Austin (Kirby) Boyce of Florence, SC, Tom Boyce of White Hall, NY, and Brock Boyce of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Taylor, Griffin, Grayson, Caroline, Wesley, Sam, Porter, and Harper; his sister, Jane (Ray) Tripp of Greenwood, SC.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Boyce, and his brother, Robert Boyce.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Darlington Presbyterian Church Susan Johnson Memorial Fund, 311 Pearl St, Darlington, SC 29532; or to Presbyterian Home of Florence for the development of the children’s playground, 2350 W. Lucas St. Florence, SC 29501.

Sarah Ruth Robinson Kinsaul

Sarah Ruth Robinson Kinsaul, age 91 of Rincon, GA, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 25th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following in Darlington Memory Gardens. The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born August 4, 1925 in Milstead, GA, Sarah is the daughter of the late James Elton Robinson and Lizzie Lee Rooks Robinson. She worked as an operator at Southern Bell for many years, and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Darlington for over 50 years. After the death of her husband, she moved to Rincon Georgia in 2010, where she attended Rincon First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, James “Jimmy” R. (Karen) Kinsaul, Jr. of Rincon, GA; her daughter, Jan (John) Scanlon of Carolina Beach, NC; her grandchildren, Kimberly Kinsaul (Gary Tootle), and Robin Scanlon (David) Swann; her great-grandchildren, Ethan Tootle, Colt Tootle, Kimber Tootle, and Sierra Swann; her sister, Ailene Moffett of Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Kinsaul; her brothers, Luke Robinson, James Robinson, Glenn Robinson; and her sister, Annette Owens Swann.
