Linda L. Niver

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ron Moore officiated. The family received friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, located at 315 Pearl Street, Darlington, SC 29532.

Linda, age 77, died on the evening of February 17, 2018, following a courageous fight against an extended illness.

Born on August 20, 1940, in Clinton, SC. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Josie Lyda.

After graduating from Clinton High School, she married her high school sweetheart Bill Niver. She worked and retired after many dedicated years of service from the Lazyboy Corporation in Florence, SC.

Linda had no greater love than family and derived much joy from her grandchildren. She was a founding member of West Florence Baptist Church in Florence where she enjoyed participating in the church choir. At the time of her death, she attended Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Darlington, SC.

Linda Niver is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Tommy) Thomas of Hartsville, SC; granddaughters, Cassie E. Thomas of Coward; Melanie Katie Thomas and (Patric) of Hartsville, SC; sister, Dodie (Terry) Campbell of Clinton, SC; and special friend Jerry Warren of Florence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, WW Niver, III; son, David W. Niver and sister, Diane Lyda.

The family would like to thank the staff of Carolina Hospital Systems and Agape Hospice for their heartfelt assistance during this difficult time.

Michael Player

Michael LeRoy Player, age 69, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Thursday, February 15th at Temple Free Will Baptist Church, with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Born July 12, 1948, Michael is the son of the late Rev. Henry LeRoy Player and Ida Elizabeth Weatherford Player. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-72; and then retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. After his retirement, he co-owned Brush and Hammer doing carpentry and painting. He enjoyed fishing, collecting coins, but mostly his grandchildren. Michael was an original member of Temple Free Will Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities; Deacon, Treasurer, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Prayer warrior, Prison Ministry, and Choir. Michael loved the Lord and his church, which his father founded.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Dr. Naomi Player of Darlington; his children, Dolly P. “Dee” Gabriel (Jason) of Inman, SC, Lee “Bubba” Player (Amy) of Darlington, Josh Player (Marcia) of Dixiana, SC, Adrienne P. Wolfe of Gilbert, SC, and Rebekah Paschal (Ronny) of Darlington. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Bryson Gabriel, Annabelle Gabriel, Nathan Player, Emmalyn Player, Noah Wolfe, Eli Wolfe, Carter Paschal, Kayln Paschal, J.D. Paschal, and L.J. Paschal.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ira Wilson Player.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Belk Funeral Home, and other times at 152 Forest Drive, Darlington.

Eleanor O. Gandy

Eleanor O. Gandy, age 85, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17th at Freedom Baptist Church in Darlington, with burial following in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family received friends at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church and other times at the home of Jimmy and Cynthia Jolly, 1121 Potato House Road, Darlington.

Born August 22, 1932, Eleanor is the daughter of the late Willie G. Odom and Essie Suggs Odom. She retired from Dixie Cup after 47 years. She was an avid USC Gamecocks fan, and never missed a home or away game in over 20 years, even travelling to Hawaii to watch them play. Eleanor loved her family and was a very selfless woman. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Darlington.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Corbett Gandy; her sons, Randy Jolly and Jimmy (Cynthia) Jolly, all of Darlington; her grandchildren, Ryan Jolly Howle, who was raised as a daughter, Kelsey Jolly, and Landon Jolly; her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Coker, and Autumn Rylee; her sister, Debbie (Danny) Odom Welch of Sumter; many nieces and nephews, and her special caregiver, Margarie Scott.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Raleigh Odom, Beatrice Poe, and Linda Gail Odom.
