Student athletes receive scholarships from McLeod Sports Medicine

Scholarship Recipient Allison Hutchinson, Sally Keir, mother of Geoffrey Kier.

McLeod Sports Medicine has awarded the Geoffrey Kier Memorial Athletic Excellence Scholarships to three local high school athletes. The scholarship recipients were recognized at the annual McLeod Sports Medicine 5K and 10K Run/Walk held Saturday, March 18, 2017. The athletes receiving the scholarships are: Allison Hutchinson, Grace Lyles, and Carmen Odom.

Allison Hutchinson is a senior at South Florence High School where she participates in tennis, and serves as an athletic training student aide. She plans to attend Florence-Darlington Technical College for two years and then later transfer to a university to pursue a degree in Athletic Training. Allison is the daughter of Hugh and Pam Hutchinson.

Grace Lyles is a senior at Florence Christian School where she participates in cheerleading. She plans to major in Pre-Medicine to become a Physician Assistant. Grace is the daughter of Ron and Stephanie Lyles.

Carmen Odom is a senior at Mullins High School, where she participates in cheerleading, and serves as an athletic training student aide. She plans to attend Clemson University and major in Biological Science with plans to later attend the Medical University of South Carolina to pursue a career in Radiology. Carmen is the daughter of John and Renee Odom.

Sponsored by McLeod Sports Medicine, the Geoffrey Kier Memorial Athletic Excellence Scholarship recognizes student-athletes who personify excellence. The athletes’ chosen exhibit excellence in academics, athletics, and also possess strong leadership skills. The scholarships are awarded annually to college-bound high school seniors. The athletes are selected from participating area public and private high schools.
