Sheriff’s Office Investigators Bust Heavy Equipment Theft Ring

From January 20th to 24th, 2017 investigators with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division recovered several pieces of heavy equipment with a total value of approximately $180,000 belonging to Kirven Construction and Evans Construction.

The equipment was stolen from various construction sites in the Darlington area of Darlington County.

Bruce Steven Jackson of Darlington, Michelle Dion Collins of Hartsville, Steve Douglas Cagle of Hartsville, Kathryn Nyopal Griggs of Hartsville and Frankie Lee McNeil of Hartsville were arrested and charged with Grand Larceny greater than $10,000. Joseph Leslie Griggs, Jr. of Hartsville was arrested and charged with Criminal Conspiracy.

Sheriff Tony Chavis stated “I placed Lt. Charles Woodle in command of the Criminal Investigation Division. This division has worked extremely hard since I became sheriff to not only recover items belonging to victims, but to put the thieves in jail. I would like to thank the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this investigation.”
