Troopers from the South Carolina Highway Patrol visited Darlington food bank and ministry The Lord Cares on July 26 to deliver donations of $500 and $100.

Capt. Jo Nell said the $500 donation is from the SCHP’s annual golf tournament, and noted that troopers decided to break up the charitable donations among different outreach organizations rather than give to just one recipient.

“We’ve been doing the golf tournament for 23 years, and we used to give the money from that to one agency, and what we do now is go to each county and give the money away. We thought the food bank would be a good place to give the money to,” said Capt. Nell.

The additional $100 was collected from troopers who work in the Darlington County area.

Kevin Cauley, president of The Lord Cares Board of Directors and pastor at Darlington Presbyterian Church, said the donations are greatly appreciated and very timely.

“I want to express my thanks to the Highway Patrol for the donations, especially during this time of year. You may see a lot of cans (in the store room), but summer is typically a slow time for donations. This is a huge help and we’re grateful for all of your efforts,” said Cauley.
