Ron Scott honored with the Order of the Palmetto

Scott & Corley, P.A. is proud to announce that its Firm Chairman, Ronald C. Scott, has been awarded the Order of the Palmetto by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster. Additionally, Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin and Columbia City Council unanimously proclaimed October 12th, 2017, to be “Ronald C. Scott Day” in Columbia.

The Order of the Palmetto is the highest civilian honor in the State of South Carolina and is awarded to citizens for extraordinary lifetime service and achievements of national or statewide significance. The honor was first awarded in 1971 by Governor John C. West and is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. The selections are screened and vetted by a bi-partisan committee and then forwarded on to the Governor for final consideration. Only approximately 40-45 citizens are honored annually under the updated format.

Other well-known people to have received the Order of the Palmetto are current UN Ambassador and former South Carolina Governor, Nikki Haley; singer James Brown; nationally-awarded author and screenplay writer Pat Conroy; former California Governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger; award-winning singer Darius Rucker and Hootie and the Blowfish; and Civil Rights activist Septima Clark.
