Lizzie Huggins

LAMAR – Lizzie “Liz” Daye Dority Huggins, 76, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019.

A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 11, at Lamar United Methodist Church, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

The family received friends Friday at the church, and other times at the home, 102 N. Railroad Ave., Lamar.

Born June 2, 1943, Lizzie was the daughter of the late Roy Dority and Ruth Spires Dority.

She worked as a beautician, and owned and operated Economy Printing with her husband.

She was a talented painter and enjoyed ceramic work and shopping. Lizzie was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her sons, Darian (Chanda) Huggins of Florence, Donnie Huggins of Lamar and Daniel “Danny” Huggins of Florence; grandchildren, Lee D. Huggins, Erin Huggins, Rachel Huggins and Megan Huggins; sister, Shirley Nutter, and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Huggins; and her siblings, Buddy, Janie and Ruby.

Sara Moody

DARLINGTON — Sara Martin Moody, 84, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2019.

A graveside service was held Monday, Oct. 14, in Mechanicsville Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

The family received friends following the graveside service and other times at 1528 Cashua Ferry Road.

Born in Florence, Mrs. Moody was the daughter of the late Brice and Rennie Culbreth Martin. She was a devoted and loving housewife and mother. Mrs. Moody was a member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Melba Honney, Sarah (Mike) Isgett and Brice (Renee) Moody, all of Darlington and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manly Moody, and her sister, Beuna Martin.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Carlyle Senior Care in Florence for their love and care for Mrs. Moody for the last 17 years.

Clarice Knotts McCoy

LAMAR — Clarice Knotts McCoy, 89, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019. A funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 14, in the Lamar Chapel of Belk Funeral Home.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service with a burial in Lamar Cemetery.

Born in Florence, Mrs. McCoy was the daughter of the late Louie and Gladys N. Knotts. She retired from Sara Lee Hosiery and was a devoted housewife and mother. Mrs. McCoy was a member of Lamar Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by her brothers: Kenneth (Margaret) Knotts of Dalzell, Keith (Jeannie) Knotts of Florence, Randy (Cynde) Knotts of Hartsville; her sister, Jean (Vernon) Grooms of Lamar, Judy (Mac) Atkinson of Bishopville, grandchildren: June Johnson, Robin Nicole “Niki” Grooms; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Briana.

Mrs. Knotts was preceded in death by her only child, Robbie Grooms, and a sister, Vera Bell. The family would like to thank the staff at McCoy Nursing Home and Carolina Pines for the wonderful care given to Clarice.

Richard A. Grover

FLORENCE — Richard A. Grover, 78, passed away at his home. A graveside service was held Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, at Swift Creek Baptist Church, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Rich was born in Birmingham, Ala., Oct. 18, 1940. Although he left Alabama at a young age, Rich always claimed Alabama as his home. He was an avid Alabama (“Roll Tide”) fan and would rarely miss a game.

Rich served almost two years in the U.S. Marine Corps and spent his time in Okinawa. He always spoke fondly of his time in the Marines and was proud of his service.

Rich was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Howle Grover, and both his children, Jamie Guy and Robin Morris. He is survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He also leaves behind a brother and sister. We will miss you very much, Rich. May God’s love go with you.
