Alan Hudson

DARLINGTON – Hazel Alan Hudson, 86, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019. Funeral services were Saturday, June 8, in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home with burial following at Darlington Memory Gardens. The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and other times at the home, 2641 N. Governor Williams Highway.

Born Sept. 30, 1932, Alan was the son of the late Hazel Hudson and Sallie Lee Hudson. He retired from Dixie Cup after 30 years. He enjoyed gardening, bee keeping, and growing trees. Alan was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Estelle Folsom Hudson; daughter, Myra H. Boykin of Darlington; son, Darryl (Barbara) Hudson of Matteson, Ill.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Jacob “Buddy” Hudson; and sister, Rose (Cliff) Atkinson.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Maude Hudson, Audrey Hamilton, Aleta Atkinson; and his son-in-law, Marty Boykin.

George Tillman Wilkes

LAMAR — George Tillman Wilkes, 57, of Lamar died Friday, June 7, 2019.

Funeral services were Sunday, June 9, at Christian Pathway Fellowship Church. Burial was at Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Kistler Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.

George was born in Darlington County. He was the son of the late Tillman Edwin and Viola Morrell Wilkes. George worked for the nuclear plant in Hartsville and also with Darlington County EMS.

He later became employed with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as lieutenant over the Narcotics Division. He later served as School Resource Officer for Lamar High School.

After retiring from the Sheriff’s Office, he served as chief of Lamar Police Department.

One of his true passions was coaching softball.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Gardener Wilkes; daughters, Amy (Chris) Bullard, Carey Andrews, Emily (David) Jones and Jessica Wilkes; son, T.J. Wilkes; brothers, Owen (Ann) Wilkes, Dale (Tammy) Wilkes and Wendall “Wink” (Mary Ann) Wilkes; and grandchildren, Zachary (Morgan), Noah and Mallory Bullard, Amsley and Lawson Andrews and Jackson and Mason Jones, and many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Viola Wilkes; son, Jamie Andrews; and nephew, Clint “Dusty” Wilkes.
