Betty Bell

LAMAR — Julia “Betty” McCutcheon Bell, 78, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. A graveside service was held Saturday, Jan. 12, in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery (Bell Cemetery) on Lee State Park Road in Lamar, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Rose McCutcheon and the late Elizabeth Hudson McCutcheon Bell.

Upon the untimely death of her father when Betty was 4, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, M.J. Bell.

Mrs. Bell worked as an administrative assistant for GE, DuPont and briefly for the H.B. Robinson Nuclear Plant.

She always enjoyed working in her yards and tending to her flowers.

She was a member of Lamar Baptist Church.

Surviving are her cousins, Douglas Hudson, John Hudson, Barbara Ford, nephews, Johnny Bell and Jimmy Bell, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jerome “Pete” Bell.

John Preston Lowery

DARLINGTON – John Preston Lowery, 79, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 11, at Faith Baptist Church, 2316 Faith Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550, with burial at Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

The family received friends at the church.

Born June 7, 1939, John was the son of the late Roachell Braxton Lowery and Ruth Norwood Lowery Hatchell.

He retired from Sonoco Products Company after 35 years and was a member of the Old Timers Club.

He enjoyed going to gun shows and getting deals at yard sales and flea markets. John was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Lynch Lowery of Hartsville; daughter, Cheri (Robert) L. Traywick of Marshville, N.C.; grandchildren, Mackenzie Traywick of Wingate, N.C., Andrew Traywick of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Alexander “Alex” Traywick of Greenville, N.C.; sisters, Judy Andrews of Lamar and Marie (Johnny) White of Darlington; brother, Ronnie (Sondra) Hatchell of Darlington.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Roy D. Hatchell; stepsisters, June Martin and Faye Adams; stepbrothers, William “Billy” Hatchell and Marvin Hatchell.

Gloria Cook Wingate

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Mrs. Gloria Cook Wingate of Darlington were held on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington.

Interment followed in Florence National Cemetery, directed by Jordan Funeral Home Inc.

Mrs. Wingate was the wife of Paul E. Wingate of Darlington.

Lee W. DuBose

Lee Weber DuBose, age 45, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019.
A funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 13, in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home with a burial following in the Lamar Memorial Cemetery.

Born March 20, 1973, he was the son of the late Robert Glenn DuBose Jr. and the late Madeline Goodson DuBose.

Lee was former owner/operator of a parasail business in North Myrtle Beach and currently worked at his family business, Corner Connection, with his brother Scott.

Lee was an avid Clemson fan and enjoyed spending time on the water, whether it was riding in a boat or fishing, and he also loved to hunt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his son, Cody Glenn DuBose, sister, Peggy Dubose of Camden, brother, Scott (Terri) DuBose of Darlington, his nephew, Joshua Stokes, and his nieces, Jessica Stokes and Langley DuBose.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
