Obituaries for the Week of June 20, 2018

Kenneth Lawrence Evans
Graveside services were held for Kenneth Lawrence Evans at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home. Mr. Evans, 65, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from an illness, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Born in Florence, SC, September 16, 1952, he was the son of the late Coley L. Evans and Ruby Mae Stone Evans. He was a Maintenance Superintendent over electrical at Talley Metals for twenty years. After leaving the mill he became a Residential Contractor where he was respected by workers, suppliers and customers. Ken’s hobbies were researching, golfing, fishing, watching NASCAR and every aspect of gokart racing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and mentor. He graduated from Dillon High School in 1970, and he continued his education for an Electronic Engineering Degree.

Survivors include his wife of 47 happy years, Sandra Blackmon Evans of Darlington; son, Keith L. Evans (Jessica) of North Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Chandler K. Evans and Coley K. Evans; sisters and brothers, Kathleen Berry, Ora Lee Flowers, Ellen Rouse, all of Hamer, G.L. Evans (Joyce) of Florence, Ray Evans (Diana), and Alinda Craig (Jerry) both of Hamer; many great sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his sister, Hesteen Jackson.

Martha Steen Lima
Martha “Tiny” Steen Lima, age 56, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018. A memorial service was held 3 p.m. Friday, June 15 at Freedom Baptist Church, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Friday at the church.

Born April 18, 1962, Martha is the daughter of Robert Steen and the late Ann Campbell Steen. She enjoyed playing pool, bowling, going to the beach, walking her dog Chloe, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her family. She attended Freedom Baptist Church in Darlington.

Surviving are her husband of 25 years, William Joseph Lima of Darlington; her children, Crystal Lima of Orlando, Jennifer Mello, and Jeff Lima, both of Massachusetts, and Delia Mulvihill who was like a daughter to Martha; grandchildren, Samira and Mason Brandon, and Amelia Lima; sisters, Linda Jackson, Becky Allen, and Lisa Carter; brothers, Bobby Steen and Mitchell “Rat” Steen.

In addition to her mother, Ann Campbell Steen, Martha is predeceased by her sister, Cathy Wright; her mother and father-in-law, Olive and Seraphin Lima.

Timmy Drew
Charles Timothy “Timmy” Drew, age 51, died at his home on Monday, June 11, 2018. A Memorial service was held at Belk Funeral on Friday, June 15 at 6 p.m., and at Timmy’s request, everyone should dress casual. The family received friends from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the home, 1137 Bonnoitt Street.

Born in Florence on July 19, 1966, he was the son of the late Rev. Charles Hagood Drew and the late Bobbie Jean Weatherford Drew Langston. A beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, Timmy was a fixture of the Darlington NAPA Store for over 30 years. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with others. Timmy will be remembered as a friend to all, who looked beyond outward appearances to care for others on a personal level.

Surviving are two sisters: Melanie (Wayne) Hale of New Castle, DE, Christie (Mark) Happ of Darlington, a niece, Candice (P.J.) Puccio and their children, Ashlyn and Aubrey, nephews, Hayden and Hunter Happ, a step-niece, Emily Hale and her children: Katelyn, Megan and Olivia Auty, a step-sister, Janet Langston (Frank) Wooten of Irmo, SC, a step-brother, John (Stacey) Langston of Boone, NC and step-nieces Amanda, Hope and Spencer Langston and special friends, Adam Buck and Ken Garland.

Bessie Kent Dudley
Bessie Kent Dudley, 86, died on Thursday, June 14, 2018.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. Burial followed in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 until 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Toni D. Watford, 620 Gilchrist Road, Darlington. Mrs. Dudley was born in Darlington County. She was the daughter of the late Walter Kent and Bonnie Munn Kent. Mrs. Dudley loved watching TV, flowers and raising children.

Surviving are her children, Toni D. Watford and husband, Jimmy; and Patricia D. Boseman and husband, Hayward; her grandchildren, Sabrina Watford Vincent, Shannon Watford Duncan (Shawn), Tonya Boseman Blackwell, Billy Boseman, Jonathan Boseman, Chad Gray (Ashley), Christina Gray, Travis Gray, Amy Gilbert, April Gilbert, Brittany Dudley, Benjamin Dudley and Ashley Boseman; numerous great grandchildren and her great great grandchild, Jax Edwards, Jr.

Mrs. Dudley was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Kent and Bonnie Munn Kent; her children, Kathy D. Gray, and Wade Dudley; her brother, Benjamin Kent; and her sister, Zada Kent Bell.
