Wade “Buddy” Albert O’Neal

DARLINGTON – Wade “Buddy” Albert O’Neal, 83, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2019.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 7, in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home with burial at Grove Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born Jan. 5, 1936, Buddy was the son of the late J.D. O’Neal and Bessie Humphries O’Neal. He served in the Army and National Guard.

He worked in accounting for Coker Seed and retired from the Hartsville Oil Mill in Darlington. Buddy was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Alberta Enzor O’Neal; son, Wade Forrest (Cara) O’Neal of Irmo; daughter, Kelly (Mike) O’Neal Freeman of Wilmington; grandchildren, Michael (Carrie) Freeman, Miranda (Paul) Ferrarese, Caitlin (Derek) Lewis, Reagan O’Neal, John David O’Neal, and five great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Elms of Manning, and a special nephew, Michael Almond (Dawn) Cooke.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jewell Cooke.

Gwendolyn Faye Privette

Gwendolyn Faye Privette of Lamar, 67, passed away Aug. 7, 2019.

Faye is survived by her mother, Ruby Stokes Adams, and predeceased by her father, the late Newton Privette Jr. She is also predeceased by stepfather Tommy Adams.

In addition to her mother, Faye is survived by sisters, Dianne Dormon, Carol (Bobby) Richardson, and Michelle (Marion) Lewis, all of Lamar, and Judy Gaskins, of Florence.

She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews.

Faye was a loving sister and aunt, faithful and devoted church member at Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Lamar High School and Florence-Darlington Technical College.

Faye will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Visitation was Friday, Aug. 9, at the Belk Chapel in Lamar.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church, Darlington, on Saturday, Aug. 10, with burial in the church cemetery.

Carolyn Shelley

DARLINGTON – Carolyn Dodd Shelley, 72, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 10, at Southside Free Will Baptist Church in Darlington, with burial in Florence Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends Friday evening at Belk Funeral Home, Darlington.

Born in Haleyville, Ala., on Feb. 1, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Buford B. Dodd and Pernia Farley Dodd Storen.

Mrs. Shelley retired from Bi-Lo in Florence after working there for 26 years and until her declining health, worked at Florence Toyota. She attended Southside Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Eddie) Sansbury of Lamar, Susan Paulk of Effingham, Bonnie (Jamie) Weatherford of Effingham; grandchildren Michael Watford, James Weatherford II and Hannah Paulk, a sister, Louise Smith of Florida, two brothers, O.D. (Faye) Dodd of Effingham, Les (Kay) Dodd of Kennesaw, Ga., numerous nieces and nephews and her fur-baby, Spot.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Shelley and brothers, Billy, John, Charlie and James Harold Dodd.
