Mother arrested in Folly Rd. shooting death
The Darlington County Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit has arrested and charged Beth Lynn Sherlock, 34, of Hartsville with allowing infliction of great bodily injury upon a child and two counts of unlawful neglect of a child.
Sherlock is the mother of the five year old child killed in a shooting that occurred at a residence on Folly Rd. in the Hartsville area of Darlington County on the morning of September 15. Rodney Thomas Pittman, Jr., 29, of Hartsville, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for the death of the child.
Investigators allege Sherlock did co-habitat with Pittman at the residence on Folly Rd. Investigators also allege Sherlock knew Pittman was a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms but knowingly allowed Pittman access to a firearm inside the residence leading to the death of one child and placing another child in danger.
Sherlock is currently being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
