Luke Elliott to represent the South Atlantic Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Coker College’s Luke Elliott has been selected to represent the South Atlantic Conference at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum. Elliott, along with 220 other NCAA college athletes representing all sports and various campus academic departments will meet in Washington D.C.
The NCAA leadership development and governance groups at the national office collaborate to host the forum, which also will include 73 athletics administrators, coaches and faculty from colleges and universities. Eighteen administrators and coaches were selected earlier in the year by a committee from the NCAA membership to attend facilitation training in preparation for conducting the curriculum at the forum.

During the forum, the student-athletes will learn about NCAA governance structures and how committees work and make membership decisions. They will also explore the role of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committees and how impactful they can be at the national, campus and conference levels. SAAC is the voice of the student-athlete within the NCAA governance structure. Student-athletes are encouraged to share their knowledge with the SAAC on their campuses. Additionally, the student-athletes will participate in a community service project to benefit Washington, D.C. area youth and young adults who are in need.

“I am excited that Luke was selected to attend the NCAA Leadership Forum,” said vice president for athletics and athletic facilities Dr. Lynn Griffin. “This forum will continue to broaden his leadership skills as he interacts with fellow student-athletes across the region.”

The Leadership Forum, created in 1997, has been a life-changing experience for more than 5,000 student-athletes, many who have grown personally and professionally, gained a new network of peers and friends, as well as felt the rewards and importance of community service.

Elliott is a junior at Coker and is a member of the cross country and track & field team’s. The Statesville, N.C. native is the son of Fran and James Elliott.
