Lott Breaks School Record, Qualifies for NCAA Championships at CSU Spring Break Invitational

NORTH CHARLESTOn- The Coker College women’s track and field team challenged the Charleston Southern University Spring Break Invitational on Friday, March 16. Senior Darroneshia Lott set the Coker record in the 1500-meter event, while qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the same run. Three other Cobras qualified for day two finals.

Darroneshia Lott ran the fastest 1500-meter event in Coker women’s track and field history with the time of 4:33.46. The time automatically qualifies Lott to run in the NCAA Outdoor Championships (May 24-26). In the run, Lott defeated the second place finisher by a margin of 14.15 seconds.

Noelia Leake took a third place finish in the preliminary 100-meter dash, qualifying for the finals with the time of 12.08 seconds. The time slides into third all-time at Coker.

Kaylah Ruff and Asante Rice both qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing second and eighth overall. Ruff ran a 14.88, third all-time in program history, and Rice a 15.98.

Talicia Murphy and Deonzha Jackson competed in the long jump with Murphy placing third and Jackson fifth overall. Murphy jumped a mark of 17′ 2″ and Jackson 16′ 8″.

Autumn Walters finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in the time of 25.49 seconds. In the javelin, Tiffany Taylor placed seventh overall with a throw of 99′ 3″.
