Walk With the Docs

On behalf of the Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County and Darlington Raceway, please consider joining us for our tenth annual “Walk with the Docs”, as we honor the hearts of our volunteer medical community. Again this year, Chip Wile, President, and his crew will host “Walk with the Docs” on May 2, at 10:00 a.m. at the Darlington Racetrack! All participants and supporters will enter through the West Tunnel and park under the garage in the infield. The 2.7-mile walk, which is 2 laps around the track, will begin at Pit Road and end at the Finish Line! Walkers will have band music to walk by provided by Darlington High School and if you can’t make the whole trek, a golf cart will be available to give you a ride! Jeff Taylor, Marketing Director, will be welcoming everyone to the Track and Dennis Adcock, Operations Director, will be on hand to answer any questions about the Racetrack. Light refreshments will be provided, and Walk With The Docs t-shirts are available for all participants.

After the Walk, the Racetrack crew will be offering rides in their pacer car that can carry 3 walkers at a time around the track up to 80 mph. The pacer car will be leaving at Pit Road and will drive twice around the track taking on the 27-degree inclines. A waiver will need to be signed before the ride.

This event joins the two annual walks into one giving everyone a chance to come together as supporters of this ministry that covers our entire county. Through this ministry, we are able to offer hope and healing to our neighbors who are doing everything they can to help themselves and their families. Many times, just this type of help is what they need to get back on their feet and provide for their families again especially in these changing healthcare times. Your support of the Walk will help fund these services.

The Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County has offered free, quality health care since August, 2000, to the low income, uninsured people of our communities. Having the two sites available to the residents of Darlington County has allowed us to register 4,789 patients to date since the openings in 2000 and 2006. In 2014, the Hartsville office registered 68 new people providing 1,137 doctor visits to both established and new patients. The Free Medical Clinic pharmacy provided 7,307 medications for patients from both sites. The health care reform issues have given us new challenges as we try to help navigate our patients through the processes. We need your help with funding so we can continue to offer these services to Darlington County residents.

Sponsorship levels are available, and individual walker forms can be completed in time to get a Walk t-shirt by calling either Clinic office, 843-332-0422 (Hartsville), or 843-398-0060 (Darlington) or email Kathy Baxley Hancock at kbaxleyfmc@sc.rr.com for more information. Come join the fun!

In His Service,
Kathy Baxley Hancock
