Good riddance to the Tyner Warehouse

Many thanks to Curtis Boyd and to the other nine members of Darlington Investors LLC for their decision to demolish the Tyner Warehouse.

It has indeed been an enormous eyesore for way too long, and even though it’s not on a main thoroughfare, its removal will surely contribute to an overall aesthetic uplift for residents as well as visitors.

It’s also gratifying for those of us who love Darlington to see that there are still folks who “get up and do what needs to be done”!

Lessons from the power of persistence

Editor’s note: In 2017, Darlington County teenager Cameron Graham went before County Council to ask the county to pave a flood-prone section of Flatnose Road in the Dovesville area so his school bus could pick him up. He kept pushing to get the work done, and finally, the road was paved in January, and Graham held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in February.

Kudos to Cameron Graham and (News & Press reporter) Samantha Lyles for writing the story.
Cameron’s persistence paid off in many ways — getting a road (paved that was) obviously named after the famous tree-climbing dog — but the biggest star on Flatnose Road is Cameron, whose initiative to get something done “by figuring it out” (succeeded).

Cameron, I hope you do become governor of South Carolina, and once again, Dovesville will be on the map, and I can proudly say I grew up in Dovesville. I’m sure former Gov. (David) Beasley can advise you a little on the road to the Governor’s (Mansion).

You are a star already in your generation and I know from personal experience if you go after the things you want, as you did with the paved road, your life will be rewarded over and over again.

There will be bumps in the road, but you have demonstrated to yourself and all who saw your story what it takes to get something you really want. The wonderful picture that appeared in the paper showed lots of smiling faces on happy people.

Cameron, you were responsible for all that happiness; be proud.

“Boobie” DeLorme, former Dovesvillian, 1946-72, Lebanon, Ill.
