The Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the 2016-2017 Leadership Hartsville class, which begins September 22. This nine-month leadership development program is designed to identify and cultivate individuals with the interest and potential to serve in our community’s many leadership roles.

In its fifth year, Leadership Hartsville provides participants with opportunities to engage in a comprehensive course in personal, professional and community exploration. The essence of community engagement in Hartsville is explored from the experiences of local leaders in education, government, business and nonprofit organizations.

Leadership Hartsville begins September 22 with a two-day retreat. Between October and May, the class meets for one full day a month with a second two-day retreat in February. The program covers Hartsville’s history, local government, nonprofit organizations, education, small businesses, large businesses, emergency response, and quality of life. The John C. Maxwell 360 Degree Leader is explored throughout the program. Class participants also finish the program with a project, collaborating to determine the project and often spark creative ways to make a positive impact on Hartsville.

Area employers value this program as a way to develop leaders and encourage connecting with others. Participants enjoy the immersive nature of each session, as well as the skill and relationship building that enhances both their resumes and their daily lives as Hartsville residents. “Leadership Hartsville was a tremendous leadership experience. It helped me gain important leadership skills that I can use on every level within my company. Leadership Hartsville also gave me an in-depth knowledge of Hartsville as a growing community,” remarked John Russell, 2016 Leadership Hartsville graduate and manager of business development at Raceway Ford Chevrolet.

A full scholarship for an employee of a nonprofit organization and a half scholarship for an employee of a small business will be available again this year. Applications for the program and scholarships can be found online at www.hartsvillechamber.org and are available at the chamber office, 214 N. Fifth Street. Applications are due by Monday, August 15 at 5 p.m. Sponsorship opportunities for chamber member businesses are also available. For more information about the program, please contact the chamber at 843-332-6401 or president@hartsvillechamber.org.
