Lamar Library celebrates the Year of the Dog

The Lamar Library brought a touch of the far east to local kids at a February 17 tea party, where young men and ladies watched the Disney classic “Mulan,” heard a very informative and entertaining story about etiquette (read by children’s librarian Kelly Shull), enjoyed some Chinese treats and cuisine, and learned about the Chinese Zodiac signs – including which of 12 cool animals signifies their birth year.

Shull said the Lamar Library tries to have a different themed tea party every year around Valentine’s Day, allowing toddlers to sixth graders to dress fancy (if they wish), share some delicious food, and get a little practice on their table manners and socialization. Shull says the tea parties also serve as a reminder that the library isn’t just for checking out books – it’s a fun place that offers lots of paths to learning.
