Hyman issues statement on school shootings

Mal Hyman, Congressional Candidate for SC District 7, released a statement following the shootings in Santa Fe and Atlanta:

“Gun violence in the last 3 decades has killed more Americans than all of the wars we have fought. This is a clear and present danger to our national security. Inaction from congress is unacceptable cowardice and complicity with the NRA. We need universal background checks now. We must ban semi automatic weapons and the sale of bump stocks and high capacity magazines which put the police and the public at risk. Let’s finally act on the advice of urban police chiefs who have been calling for these changes for decades.

That will not be nearly enough to insure domestic tranquility– We must also convene a National non-partisan committee of experts to study violence in America and make policy proposals. There is a crisis in our country and we must be the change that we wish to see. National security is everyone’s business. When the White House and Congress have lost their moral compass, we the people must fight for common sense and justice.”
