Hartsville High graduates sign with construction company

Last week, four 2019 Hartsville High School graduates signed to work with Day & Zimmermann following an articulated welding agreement between the Darlington County Institute of Technology (DCIT) and Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC).

During a signing day celebration at FDTC, the four students signed documentation that solidified the opportunity to earn a job at Day & Zimmermann, a Philadelphia-based construction company that operates in 150 locations worldwide. The students included William Austin Lunn, Evan S. Pederson, Christopher Sims and Jacob L. Smith.

In the fall, these students will have the option to enroll in the academic or FDTC Corporate & Workforce Development welding programs and earn a certificate, diploma and/or degree. Day and Zimmermann hires many welding students for its workforce, especially from the college’s Pipe Welding program.

Not only are the four students graduates of Hartsville High School, but they also completed the Welding Technology program at the DCIT. The experience gained at the DCIT will help these students transition to college courses at FDTC, because they already have had hands-on welding experience.
