Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics students earn state’s highest ACT scores
The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is pleased to announce that the GSSM Class of 2017 received the highest ACT scores in the state. With an average composite score of 30.1, GSSM students scored well above the national average of 21.0
“Our students continue to make us proud. They work very hard and are deserving of this distinction,” said Dr. Hector Flores, GSSM President. “We also congratulate the twenty other South Carolina high schools whose students scored at or above the national average. Their good work helps to build a stronger future for our state.”
The ACT includes four different test categories: English, Math, Reading, and Science. Scores for each category and the overall composite are based on a 36-point scale. The exam is used to measure student readiness for first-year college courses and the performance levels of public, private and home-based high schools.
For nearly thirty years, GSSM has been one of the nation’s top-ranked residential high schools, serving the state’s highest achieving juniors and seniors. It offers unique, college-level courses and a hands-on curriculum with a special focus on science, technology, engineering, math, and research, along with concentrations in economics and entrepreneurship, as well as a full array of humanities courses.
