Members of Darlington Dixie Force visited the offices of the Darlington County School District on Thursday, August 24 to drop off two truckloads of school supplies. For the past two years, employees of Georgia Pacific’s Darlington Dixie Cup facility have donated items from the DCSD’s required school supplies list to help local students in need
“This year we wanted to do it on a larger scale. Last year we just did ten elementary schools that had been identified by the school district as having a lot of low-income families where the kids weren’t able to get all the required school supplies for the year. This year we branched out further and included all four middle schools – Darlington, Rosenwald, Spaulding, and Hartsville Middle Schools,” says Darlington Dixie Force team leader Ashley Black.

Darlington Dixie Force is taking an active role in community projects, like helping local firefighters install smoke alarms for those in need, and sponsoring children through the Salvation Army and Department of Social Services Angel Tree program, where low income families submit a wish list of Christmas items for their child and volunteers – like the team from Dixie Cup – make those wishes come true.
