DCSD graduates score higher than national average on SAT
Darlington County School District (DCSD) graduating seniors scored higher than the national average on the SAT in 2017, according to data released by testmaker, The College Board.
DCSD graduating seniors scored an average composite of 1056, while the national average was 1044. The average composite score in the state of South Carolina was 1058. Graduating seniors in 2017 took a brand new SAT, which is why composite score totals vary greatly from the prior year.
DCSD sophomores, who took the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, scored an average composite score of 922, which is higher than the state average of 901. The national average for sophomores taking the PSAT was 925.
Juniors in DCSD, who took the PSAT/NMSQT, outscored both the state and national averages of 1024 and 1006, respectively. DCSD juniors averaged a composite score of 1040.
The College Board also released 2017 Advanced Placement (AP) examination data on Tuesday. As a district, DCSD students scored 3, 4 or 5 on 49 percent of AP exams, which was slightly lower than the 57 percent state average and 56 percent national average.
