Darlington Professional Women present annual award

On Wednesday, April 19, the Darlington Professional Women Club recognized their 2017 ‘Woman of the Year’ winner during a meeting at the Darlington Country Club. Current club president Lisa Rock, a past recipient of the award, told those present that the award is given every April.

“Today is one of those special meetings where we get to recognize a member of our club who goes above and beyond in her job, for our community and for this club,” Rock said.

The award is a surprise but the winner was quickly apparent to members as Rock read off a biography.

“This year’s winner is an energetic, hard-working member of our club,” Rock said. “She always accepts the challenge of whatever needs to be done. Her upbeat personality is a blessing to many. She is devoted to her company and is always eager to represent them in any way that she can. Her dedication shines as a wife and mother who seems to juggle everything with ease. She helps maintain the club’s Facebook site, keeps the directory and the newsletter up to date and hardly ever misses a meeting.”

Rock finally announced Amanda Boykin as the winner, just as her husband and children come out from an adjoining room. Boykin was surprised by the honor and by the surprise visit from her family.

“I was really surprised,” Boykin said. “I don’t even know how to process this. It really means a lot.”

Boykin’s bosses also made a surprise appearance.

After the award was given out, officers were sworn-in by Rock. Boykin will continue in her duties as club secretary, Jean Tyner will serve as Vice President and Meredith Townsend will continue as club treasurer.
