Darlington Police Chief announces retirement

Darlington Police Chief Danny Watson has announced his plans to retire near the beginning of 2018. The statement that he issued read:

“After careful consideration and much thought I’ve decided to retire Jan 8, 2018. I’ve deeply enjoyed my time here at Darlington Police Department and the many people I’ve helped along the way. To each of you who continues to work in this capacity I wish you good luck and God Speed. Chief Watson”

Watson was named chief in 2011 after an extensive search, replacing Jay Cox who had passed away. He was one of three finalists named from a search that brought in 23 applications.

He has served with the Darlington Police Department most of his professional career, working his way up from patrolman.

During his time as chief, Watson has written grant proposals and has been awarded numerous grants for the police department.
