Darlington County Mail Scams

Darlington County Sheriff’s Deputies have received reports of a mail scam targeting residents in our area. Individuals are receiving letters in the mail appearing to be from Publishers Clearing House with a check for $78,000. The mail piece includes a telephone number to call. The potential victim is instructed to deposit the check and send a portion of the money to the call taker. It is believed the telephone number routes overseas.

If it sounds too good to be true, IT IS! If you receive this mail piece, throw it in the trash. If you fall victim to this, very little can be done to recover your money or to prosecute due to the perpetrators likely operating overseas.
