Coker Men’s basketball schedule announced

The Coker College men’s basketball team is excited to announce their schedule for the 2018-19 season.

The Cobras advanced to the South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinals last season and improved their win total by four games over the previous year. Coach Aric Samuel returns for his third season, looking to build on the success of his previous two campaigns.

Coach Samuel says “I am super excited about our 2018-19 basketball schedule. The staff and I put together a competitive non-conference schedule that will prepare us to compete in the South Atlantic Conference.”
Coker’s non-conference schedule is highlighted by two games apiece against Limestone and Barton. The Cobras will open the season against Barton on Nov. 13 in the Harris E. & Louise H. DeLoach Center. The Bulldogs finished 17-13 overall last season, advancing to the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas tournament.
South Atlantic Conference competition kicks off on Nov. 28 when the Cobras take on Wingate at home. Coker will be looking for revenge against a Wingate team that knocked them out of the South Atlantic Conference tournament in an overtime thriller last season. Additional South Atlantic Conference home dates include Carson-Newman (Dec. 15), Anderson, S.C. (Jan. 5), Lenoir-Rhyne (Jan. 16), Lincoln Memorial (Jan. 26), Mars Hill (Feb. 2), Queens, N.C. (Feb. 6), Catawba (Feb. 13), Tusculum (Feb. 23), and Newberry (Feb. 27).
Perhaps the biggest test of the season will come when the Cobras travel to Spartanburg to take on USC-Upstate on Dec. 29. The Spartans are members of the Big South Conference in NCAA DI.

The Cobras are bolstered by a deep recruiting class, and 14 returners from last season’s team. Marquis Green, a SAC All-Freshman team selection a year ago, is returning along with seniors Khalil Halls and Larry Cooper. Halls averaged 14 points per game while shooting 37 percent on three-pointers last season, earning him Male Newcomer of the Year at the 2018 FANG Awards.
