Coker Helps With Hartsville Fall Softball Program

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team is hard at work this preseason, but not just perfecting their own skills. Head softball coach Travis McCall and his group have undertaken the Hartsville Area Fall Softball Program, which is a youth softball program aimed at providing skill instruction and increasing participation in the Hartsville Area Recreation Department. The program is split into two divisions, an 8u and 12u division, and the Coker softball players have taken the responsibility of conducting practices and running each game.

The program is slated to run for around six weeks, with practices at Coker on the Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field and games being played at Byerly Park starting Monday, October 1.

John Wall, the area director of Darlington County Parks, Recreation, and Tourism had this to say about the volunteer efforts of the Cobras, “we are pleased to partner with coach McCall, his staff, and players because the opportunity for these young people to learn from college coaches and players is such a unique experience.” Wall also added, “this isn’t just a camp, this is a six week season and a partnership between the Coker softball team and this community.”

“With more than 40 local girls participating, this is a great opportunity for the staff and players to become more connected with the community and grow the game of softball in this area,” said Coach McCall.
