Coker Esports to join Peach Belt Conference as an associate member

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Coker University will join the Peach Belt Conference as an associate member for Esports, announced by the league.
Coker will make the move along with Division III Alma (Mich.) and Hawaii Pacific.

The league primarily sponsors League of Legends and also puts on a conference championship for the sport.

“We are excited to become members of the Peach Belt Conference in Esports,” said Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Facilities Lynn Griffin. “The Peach Belt has been a leader in recognizing and promoting Esports as a part of the athletics community and we look forward to this new opportunity.”

This will be Coker’s second season of competition for Esports, and the program’s first season in the Peach Belt.

Coker plays Overwatch, League of Legends and Hearthstone.

“We are very excited to be a part of the Peach Belt for the upcoming season,” said head coach Joseph Rudy.

“In the past year the competition in the conference has grown at an impressive rate and we hope to add to that. I am very excited to be competing against and working together with all of the schools from the Peach Belt.”

The team played to a 13-9 record in Overwatch, a 3-3 record in League of Legends and an 8-5 record in Hearthstone in 2018-19.
