Church’s Mission Fair Fall Fundraiser set for Friday

Mechanicsville Baptist Church aims to raise $50,000 at its annual Mission Fair Fall Fundraiser on Friday.

The event includes barbecue, a bake sale, homemade crafts and a general store. A series of auctions, including a Homemade Cake Auction, are planned. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the church, located at 2364 Cashua Ferry Road in Darlington.

Cyndi Rice, a church spokeswoman, said this will be the 10th year for the fall fundraiser. “It has just grown tremendously,” she said. “We are so blessed with the support we have received on this.”

The event started out as a chicken bog dinner, “but everybody was doing chicken bog,” so they switched to barbecue. About 2,000 barbecue plates are expected to be sold, she said.

Last year, the event raised about $35,000, she said. The money supports a variety of missions. It also supports the Peaceful Peacemakers, a quilting group.

In honor of Pastor Appreciation Month, Darlington-area pastors get a certificate good for two free meals at the event. Law-enforcement officers who come by also will get a free meal, Rice said.
