Child dies after early morning shooting in Hartsville

Friday morning, Darlington County Sheriff’s Deputies took Rodney Thomas Pittman, Jr., 29, of Hartsville into custody after an early morning shooting that injured a 5 year old child. The incident occurred at a residence on Folly Rd. in Hartsville. The child later died. Pittman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon. Bond was set Sunday afternoon at $25,000. Pittman remains at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center.

Special Victims Unit Investigators allege that Pittman fired a firearm that ultimately struck and injured a 5 year old boy about 2:30 a.m. Friday at a house on Folly Rd. Pittman was taken into custody about 3:30 a.m. Friday. The child succumbed to the injuries and died Saturday afternoon.
