2 killed in motorcycle, moped wrecks in county

From Staff Reports

A Darlington woman riding a moped and a Hartsville man riding a motorcycle were killed in separate accidents last week, officials said.

The Hartsville man, identified by county coroner J. Todd Hardee as Tyrus Ronnie Morrell, 50, died Nov. 24 when his motorcycle collided with a car in Hartsville.

The accident took place about 5 p.m. near the Hartsville Skating Arena on Marquis Highway, Hardee said in a news release.

The case was being investigated by the coroner’s office and the state Highway Patrol, Hardee said.

The following day, Nov. 25, a Darlington woman – whose name had not yet been released – was killed when her moped collided with a car on U.S. 52 in Darlington, Hardee said.

This accident took place about 8:45 p.m. south of Fastrack Convenience Store on U.S. 52, he said. The case was being investigated by the Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.

Funeral services for Morrell were being handled by Norton Funeral Home of Hartsville.

His obituary describes “Ty” Morrell as a native and lifelong resident of Hartsville.

“Ty was a Gamecock fan who also loved his motorcycle,” his obituary says. “He will be remembered as a man who loved his family and spending time with friends.”
